Accidents Happen!

The clinic is in need of gently worn underwear, socks, and pants of all sizes from 5 to 12. Elastic waists work the best, because they can cover a few sizes. Belts are needed also. Not only do we need clothing for the occasional accident, but also for a child who has vomited on themselves, had a case of diarrhea, or found a puddle on the playground.

Mobile Dentist

Robinwood Lane Elementary School offers a valuable program to our children—the Mobile Dentist.

How important is oral health? Cavities and gum disease have been linked to diabetes, respiratory diseases, and heart disease. There is also evidence that poor oral health has been linked to sleeping problems as well as behavioral and developmental problems in children. Tooth decay prohibits a good night’s sleep. Therefore, a child comes to school tired and unable to focus, because he has mouth pain.

Twice a year a dental team is scheduled to come to our school. The team sets up a mini dental clinic. A licensed dentist and hygienist provide dental examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, x-rays, and sealants (if needed) for all children who return the appropriate form.

With most families having two working parents, it can be difficult to find the time to schedule a dental appointment. The Mobile Dentist program provides service to families who have insurance or who have Care Source. Free service is provided to those who need financial assistance.

You can reduce the risk of dental problems by:

  • Making sure your child brushes his teeth for at least 2 minutes twice a day. Make sure that he brushes his tongue. Bacteria collects in the mouth when you sleep, since you don’t swallow as much.
  • Omit foods that are high in sugar.
  • Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Being proactive with your child’s dental health will help him become a healthy, successful student.

Call the school for more information if you are interested in taking advantage of the service provided by the Mobile Dentist program.
